Stepper motors and drivers are widely used in CNC engraving machines, machining centers, CNC machinery and other places where precise positioning is required. As an electronic product stepper motor driver installation or application, some common faults are inevitable. Here are some common common faults and simple maintenance methods.

1. The motor is not working

1. The drive is disconnected: the connection with the motor, the connection with the power line and the connection of the switching power supply are disconnected, which will make the motor unable to work.

2. Driver alarm: It can be judged according to the indication of LED or other methods, according to the instructions for use, whether it is over-voltage, under-voltage protection, over-current, over-temperature and other constant stepping motor drivers are faulty.

3. The driver has no power supply stepper motor driver system: the working voltage of the digital multimeter can be used to check the connection of the wiring terminals of the power supply system of the driver and the working voltage of the power supply system.

4. The commercial insurance of the driver is broken: the working voltage of the power supply system of the driver is normal, but the motor is not working and the indicator light of the driver is not on. At this time, it can be analyzed and judged that the commercial insurance in the driver is broken. If the driver is using self-repairing commercial insurance, the motor and driver can be disconnected, wait for some kinds, and power on again without connecting the motor. If the driver can be normal, it means that the motor has a short-circuit fault.

5. The drive enable data signal is incorrect: when the enable data signal is incorrect, the motor will not be locked. At present, most drivers on the market can work normally without connecting the enable data signal. If there is a common fault that the power is not locked, the enable electrode connecting line can be pulled out to distinguish whether the enable data signal is wrong.

6. The basic parameters of the drive are wrong: generally, the current setting is too small, and the current cannot drive the motor.

7. Poor contact of the power cord: the air of the power cord is oxidized or the screws are not fastened.

8. Problems of the motor itself: the motor shaft is corroded, stuck, demagnetized, short circuit, etc.

9. Pulse signal problem: The pulse signal does not meet the data signal requirements of the driver, such as the pulse width is very small, the single pulse frequency is too high, and the single pulse pulse signal is too low (for example, the driver must have a 9V pulse signal, but the output is 3.3V) .

10. The internal circuit of the driver is faulty: if there are several drivers of the same type in hand, it can be immediately exchanged and distinguished.

2. Abnormal operation of the motor

1. Motor posture but inter-turn, lost steps:

The frequency of the single pulse is too high, can adjust the pulse width, motor maximum stepper motor driver speed to try to process

The load torque is very large, and the torque required by the load exceeds the motor. You can try to increase the output current of the driver, but it cannot exceed the rated voltage of the motor.

The load inertia force is very large, and you can try to reduce the speed of the motor

The acceleration and deceleration time is too short, adjust the main parameters of the acceleration and deceleration curve of the system software

Poor or affected data signal, where the pulse signal changes suddenly

When the power supply voltage changes or is unstable, the current requirement of the switching power supply when the motor is running will increase the stepper motor drive. Medium exception

2. Motor vibration, uneven operation, prohibition of precise positioning

Poor, uneven, or affected data signals, where the pulse signal changes suddenly or is noisy

The frequency of the single pulse is too high, you can adjust the pulse width and the maximum speed of the motor to try to process

The single-pulse pulse signal is wrong, the pulse signal is too high or too low

The pulse signal is not matched. There are many pulse signal methods. The stepper motor driver is generally the pulse signal method. Determine whether the method is appropriate or not.

The single pulse frequency produces resonance, and the pulse width and the maximum speed of the motor can be adjusted to try to deal with it.

The system software grounding device or shielding is not good, check the grounding device of the system software or the shielding of the data signal

3. Motor over temperature

The working temperature is too high, increase the heat dissipation

The setting is not good, and the current is too large. If there is a half-current power switch, you can try to turn on the half-current to reduce the heat.

Drive and motor are not paired

4. Loud noise

The drive itself is defective in its design

The motor works in the low frequency region or the resonance region
